Healthy Holidays

Thanksgiving through New Year’s is such a wonderful time of year filled with family time, holiday parties and weekend celebrations. It’s a time of year that brings people together to eat, drink, and be merry! Sometimes it can be difficult to stick to your health and fitness routines with the busy-ness of the season. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track this year and feel your best in all your festive attire:

  • Exercise early. It is unlikely that you will be in the mood to get moving after a big meal or cocktails at a holiday party. Exercising first thing in the morning will not only burn off a few extra calories that may later be consumed, but it will also boost your mood and motivate you to stay on track.
  • At dinner parties, fill your plate with color–think veggies, fruit, salad, etc. We are all about “everything in moderation” and find that when we fill up on nutrient-dense foods first we can enjoy some of our other guilty pleasures without over indulging (helllooo dessert table!)
  • When enjoying some of your favorite not-so-healthy treats keep in mind the 7th, 8th, and 9th bites aren’t going to taste any different than the first three. Savor and enjoy a small portion.
